Residential Metal
Shingled homes, often referred to as “shingle-style” homes, feature a distinct architectural style that originated in the late 19th century. These homes are characterized by their use of shingles as the primary exterior cladding material, giving them a modern and cozy appearance. To enhance both the aesthetics and functionality of your shingle-style home, various types of metal designs are used for specific areas, including valleys and rake metal.

Residential Roofing Metal
Valleys: Valleys are the areas where two roof slopes meet at an angle, forming a V-shaped channel. These areas are particularly vulnerable to water penetration and require proper waterproofing to prevent leaks. Metal valley flashing is commonly used to protect these areas. Valleys can be made from various materials, including galvanized steel, aluminum, or copper.
Rake Metal: Rake metal, also known as edge metal or gable flashing, is used along the edges of a roof where the shingles end and the roof meets the gable walls. Rake metal helps protect your edges of the shingles from wind uplift, water intrusion, and potential damage. It also provides a clean and finished appearance on your roof’s edges.
Chimney and Skylight Flashing: Shingled homes often have chimneys and skylights that protrude through the roof surface. Flashing is used around these features to create a watertight seal and prevent leaks. Step flashing and counter flashing are common techniques used to secure the intersections between the shingles and the chimney or skylight on your home. These flashings can also be made from metal materials like copper or aluminum.
